How Police Simulator: Patrol Duty Lets You Experience the Life of a US Officer
Police Simulator takes place in a fictional city as a member of the Brighton Police Department. We begin our careers on foot patrol within a certain area of the city. As we progress, additional areas are unlocked along with car patrols and various types of police calls for service. This is not simply a pull someone over, give them a ticket and let them go type of game. Police Simulator and its developers were clearly vested in making a true to life and accurate representation of the police career. The shifts are 8 hours in length, and can range in the amount of real-life time it takes to complete lasting for 15, 20, 25, 30, 35,45, 60 or 90 minutes.
Police Simulator has the player take on the role of a police officer in the American municipality of Brighton. The game itself occurs in 3rd person with the police officer required to go patrol on foot and by car, either in single player or online co-op.
Equal parts engrossing and buggy, Police Simulator: Patrol Officers is a couple of bug-squashing patches away from being a truly great simulator on console. Even so, Brighton and its exceedingly criminal citizenry are still worth protecting and serving, especially for fans of the genre.

The third content update of Police Simulator: Patrol Officers invites players to explore a new city district: Brickston consists of the five neighborhoods Sharnwick, Nelson Hill, Brianna, Wilcox, and Bannock, which can be unlocked bit by bit by earning Shift Points and Duty Stars. The new district, characterized by striking brick buildings and narrow one-way streets, also houses the Brighton Hospital. Virtual officers can either patrol the streets of this historic district, which visually differs from the lively Melting Pot and the glamorous downtown, by foot or in a new, sleek police vehicle.
In The Operation Anti-Drug update, players can of course not only look forward to a new environment, but also to new areas of responsibility that will bring further variety to everyday police life. As the title of the update suggests, they should keep an eye out for potential drug dealers on the streets of Brighton who are looking to sell their illegal goods to potential buyers in a seemingly unobserved moment. In addition, graffiti sprayers and illegally parked cars in bus stops have recently been causing displeasure in the neighborhoods.
Simulators set out to do one thing: simulate their given subject. Let's be honest, most do their job admirably in delivering the mundane, dull gameplay that one would expect from such a simulator. Put it this way, nobody is going into Farming Simulator expecting a hillbilly shootout on the old McGregor ranch. But a game that simulates law enforcement? C'mon, it's ripe for a bit of excitement, something that the simulation genre could do with a good dose of.
Interactions with the public are very basic and a far cry from the investigations in the far superior police simulator, L.A Noire. And, yes, I know L.A Noire is not a police simulator, but that should tell you something.

The city of Brighton is dull, generic, and not really much fun to move around in, whether that's awkwardly running around on foot or haphazardly driving the cars that handle like reject shopping trolleys. It's a bit of an eyesore, too, especially when traveling at speed in a police car. Citizens, cars, and other objects will pop in aggressively, furthering the feeling of the game being a bit cheap. Character animations are quite poor, too, though I had to laugh at my own character; moving the left stick while the run toggle was on resulted in him moving in a mock slow-motion fashion. In a game with not much going for it, I had to take the small joyous moments where I could.
As far as simulators go, it's not the worst. To the game's credit, it does offer the dull, mundane day-to-day routine that a lot of actual police officers call a career. If you want to spend hours writing tickets and slowly progressing in a meaningless career in law enforcement, you can do it here without the risk of being vilified on social media. But it could have been so much more had the systems in play been deeper and more robust, not to mention, fun. Instead, Police Simulator: Patrol Officers is a bit of a buggy mess that feels half-baked and not ready for patrol just yet. Back to the academy with this one.
You can patrol through the streets of Brighton as a team - and protect your city, together. You can resolve accidents together. You can drive through the streets in a police car together. You can hand out parking tickets together.
Welcome to Brighton! Join the police force of this fictitious American city and experience the day to day life of a police officer. Start with citing violations and giving out parking tickets, then work your way towards shouldering more responsibilities. Be part of the community of Brighton, get to know your neighborhood and handle daily police work to fight crime during your shift. Always be tough, but fair: respect the law and gain more experience to unlock more neighborhoods, districts and duties.
As a police officer you have the choice of working five shifts out of seven days. You can work day shifts or night shifts (although the night time has not been introduces as of yet). Working nights or weekends affects the type of crime you might encounter. i.e., more Drunk driving in the evenings.
I was quite impressed with the number of features available at the moment. Police simulator is already fun to play and there is so much more planned for the future. The road map shows all the updates in progress and the Discord and Trello pages give owners of the game the opportunity to suggest and vote on improvements.
Driving the police car is a little cumbersome to begin with and it is nearly impossible to pull over vehicles for infringements. This needs a lot of improvement. I particularly enjoyed putting on my flashing lights and sirens though and watching the traffic move out of the way. There is still a lot of fun to be had in the two vehicles that are available, but most of your success will probably come on foot, where it is easier to navigate around the city.
Police Simulator is an impressive attempt at a real-life Police simulator. For an early access title, it is surprisingly capable in its current state and the potential is endless with some really nice ideas promised for the future.

Before we go any further, you should keep in mind that this isn't really a GTA-like experience where you can pretty much do whatever you like - it takes the simulation aspect seriously, so the whole point is to follow the rules in order to earn experience points and unlock new features over time. You start off as a rookie police officer, tasked with performing duties such as issuing parking tickets and using your radar gun to scan for speeding drivers, and this eventually extends to more involved tasks including getting involved in minor and major accidents.
The one complaint I have about all these simulators is the lack of variety in the character models. I played bus simulator and several journeys ended up with my bus looking like it was going to twins and triplets convention.
